In the Sorte Lab, we work across scales – from cells to species’ ranges – to understand the mechanisms underlying community composition and biogeographic patterns. Many projects focus on aspects of global change, including climate change and species invasions. Predicting responses to global change is both a way to test our grasp of fundamental ecological processes and a necessary goal given human impacts on Earth’s systems.

Recent projects aim to address:

Impacts of global change: can we predict responses and feedbacks between performance, community interactions, and ecosystem functioning?

Coping with change: what mechanisms allow populations and species to persist in a changing climate?
